DENTAL IMPLANTS ON THE MAIN LINE
Before the development of dental implants, bridges or dentures were the only alternative for the replacement a missing tooth or teeth. Today dental implants are the first choice to replace a missing tooth or swecure loose or poor fitting dentures. Dental implants enjoy a much higher success rate than other conventional restorative choices like bridgework or dentures.
Main Line dentist, Dr. Vito has been surgically placing dental implants and restoring dental implants since 1987. Implants are titanium screws that are surgically placed to replace the missing root of the tooth. The dental implants then heal and fuse to the bone a process called osseointegration for a period of one to six months. Once the healing process is deemed satisfactory, the dental implant can then be restored like a natural tooth with a crown restoration. In situations where multiple teeth are missing bridgework can then be fabricated to connect to a series of implants.
Dr. Vito says that in order for dental implants to be successful a candidate must be in reasonably good health and have proper bone density and adequate height and width of bone. In situations where the bone is inadequate, Dr. Vito can perform bone grating procedures to improve both the quanity and quality of bone for a successful and estheic outcome.
Implants when placed properly mimic the look and feel of natural teeth. Dental implants are made of titanium which is the same material utilized in hip and knee replacement surgeries and have a high degree of succes about 97%-99%.
Like any restoration, dental implants require diligent oral hygiene and proper care to ensure they last a long time.
Dr. Vito has two Board Certifications, three Fellowships and two Masters in Dentla Implant Surgery and Restoration of DentalImplants. Dr. Vito also is a Clinical Associate Professor of Periodntics and Implant Dentistry at the Kornberg School of Dentistry Temple University and is on the teaching faculty at the Misch International Implant Institute.
